Essay Writing 5 (Last)

During our lives we interact with a lot of people and pass through various situations that makes us think deeply about our prejudice, the way we should act and how we perceive reality. Just like a book, we can never understand completely a story if we just look to the cover and we do not read the book. This example can be similar in the case of people. Nevertheless, sometimes we cannot avoid to create preconceived ideas of people. However, how do we know if our ideas are correct? How can we know if we are wrong or not? Do we get what we see or we should never judge a book by its cover? In one hand, some people say "what you see is what you get", people cannot hide who they really are, even when they try their hardest. In certain cases this is truth, the personality, beliefs and  preferences are often expressed in the way people look and act. However, how can we know exactly how a person is in essence if we do not know that person? Our precoceived ideas can tell us some thin

Essay Writing 4: Technology

Humans have been, through the passing of time, quite creative and innovative beings. Chemistry, biology or medicine are some of the examples that show the power of the technology we have created to help our society to grow and develop itself. However, technology is taking a lot of time in our lives, that is a matter that can be either very useful or very problematic. I will explain the reason why. Technology has been one of the most productive aspects of our lives. Since the discovery of fire and the use of lithics our technological development has grown exponentially to the present day, and has been taking part of our daily lives to be really helpful. Calculators, computers, phones, cars or even pencils are things that we could hardly live without in our current society. Nevertheless, the amount of time we dedicate to technology and the way we use it has turned into a real problem during the last decade, especially with the increase of the use of smartphones, for example. Choosing a place to live in can be very difficult, according to your priorities. ¿Do you have children? ¿Do you want to live near your work? ¿Is travel time important in your daily life? These can be some of the questions that have passed through your mind when you are trying to make these kind of choices. Nevertheless, usually the answers guide you to two different kinds of places you can live in: Rural and urban areas. Living in a remote area can make a person´s life rather challenging. It is a fact that nowadays most of the vital parts of social systems are placed in cities or places that are closer to high population centers, services like hospitals or supermarkets usually can be found just in cities, not in rural places. Due to this, they are usually placed very distant between each other. Therefore, it is nearly impossible to reach these places without a car or another vehicle in a short amount of time. Besides, public transportation like buses or taxis are less frequent in rur

Pets are usually a constant factor in the life of  a lot of people, these animals are recognized and acquired for a lot of reasons, such as company, security or even disabilities. Moreover, they can be from different species, like dogs, cats, fishes, birds or even other exotic animals. It is true that not every person has a pet, therefore, many people around the world tend to like them for various reasons. These creatures seem to love us and we usually attach ourselves to them emotionally. Nevertheless, why do we love pets? What do they change in us? People with pets are better human beings, in other words, they make us better people. Pets affect positively to the social capacity of a person, specially during the childhood. The contact with pets as living beings teach us to develop sympathy and respect other living beings more deeply than people with no pet. Pets help us to have a healthier life.

Essay writing (Paragraph 1)

Large cars create a lot of difficulty in our streets. These type of cars are meant to be usually used in unfavorable spaces. Likewise, they are ususally claimed to be safer because of their size, nevertheless drivers have more trouble controling vehicles like this exactly because of their size, especially when turning the car into another direction. Due to this, large cars use more space than other cars and create traffic jams and accidents that are already frequent in big cities because of the amount of vehicles that circulate in their streets . A jeep, for example, is designed as an all-terrain vehicle and uses more space than the most common cars, so it blocks the streets for other cars and they are harder to manipulate.

Pink or Blue? How much do we know about gender?

Pink or Blue? How much do we know about gender?  Over the years an impressive amount of investigation and research has been tearing down all that was known about gender identity and its social implications. The difference between gender as social and sex as biological was just the initial point to abandon the binary idea of gender and promote diversity, based in gender as a social construction, a dynamic part of the culture. Nevertheless, these ideas have spread in different ways in current society, a lot of them remain as stereotypes that flourish hate, especially in a country like Chile. The main purpose of this investigation is to discover how chilean population perceive gender stereotypes in present chilean society. The methodology of this work will be based in mixed methods, basically interviews to chilean experts in gender identity but mostly surveys to random people in Santiago de Chile. However, this investigation will be guided by philosopher Judith Butler´s gender theory, e

Anthropology

I'm an anthropology student in Universidad de Chile, before I entered this university I studied Literature for a couple years, I was interested in the language, the intrincate parts of its construction and how it was expressed in its history, particularly in literature books. Nevertheless, Anthropology let me investigate and get a lot of knowledge about different new topics I never thought about, like gender, philosophy, history or migration to mention a few of them, and question myself about how much help is needed to make this world a better place. That's the reason I decided to study Anthropology, and now I've been working in some exciting projects, to change society's perspective about itself and promote a new perspective especially to help sexual minorities and immigrants. For example, five months ago I realized with some teachers an investigation about the concepts and perceptions of transgender and transexual people in Santiago, people were asked about their know
